If you fold the hand without putting any money into the pot then you would receive zero of the rake. If you put in the most amount of money into the pot then you would receive the highest amount of rake for that hand. This method can be good for players that play a lot of poker and a lot of hands, but if you don’t then you’re much better off using the other method.

When you use the dealt method to calculate your rake you’ll know exactly what to expect. Whether the rake in the hand is $.20 or $2 you’ll always receive your portion of the rake just for being dealt cards. In tournaments the rake is the fee that you pay to enter the tournament. If you’re playing a $10 sit and go tournament then you need to pay $1 rake. With a rakeback deal you’ll receive a percentage of all of the tournament fees you pay back from the poker room. This can really add up if you play the $50 and $100 tournaments because the fee for those tournaments is fairly high.

At the end of each month the poker room will take your total amount of rake for the month and give you your percentage minus some fees. Most poker rooms have some fees that they take from the rakeback such as processing fees, bonuses in some cases and other miscellaneous fees. The fees are very small and since the money is free anyways you can’t really complain. In order to negate the fees you should try and find a custom rakeback deal with a high percentage rakeback. Some poker rooms will give you up to 25-35% rakeback which is a lot of money for some poker players that play a lot.

The contributed rake method can’t be calculated simply because nobody knows how many hands you’re going to play over the course of the month. You’ll find that you earn a more stable amount of rakeback if you play with a poker room that uses the dealt calculation method over the contributed method.
