Double or Nothing SNGs Strategy

Double or nothing is a common strategy for playing poker. As its name suggests, this simply means that players aim to double their capital for playing the games, or they earn nothing at all. To earn double, one must be able to come up with a very good strategy so that they don’t make any bad calls all throughout the game.

The strategy serves as a doctrine. This doctrine is what guides your actions throughout the games. To be able to maintain a smooth and successful game, you need to be able to stick to this doctrine and avoid making any bad calls – that is, decisions that are not in line with your strategy – and avoid the disastrous effects to your chips later on.

Three Stages of a Poker Game

The poker tournament, whether they may be single or multi-table tournaments, is consisted of three stages: the early, the middle and the late stages. Why is that necessary to cut them off into three parts? That is because each stage requires a different strategy for the player, since the population of the table changes dramatically after each stage is done and over.

The Early Stage

The early stage, being the first part of any single table tournament, is characterized by a good player being reserved and keeping his playing tight. You could say that the best strategy to subscribe to during the early stage is to choose your hands carefully. If there is a saying to summarize to characterize the early stage, it is the old adage “Save the best for last.”

At the early stage, the table is trying to get rid of most of the players so that only the more competent ones are left playing in the next part of the game. This means that one should not be too aggressive when playing at the early stage. Let others do that; soon enough they’ll find themselves leaving the table as they have dished out chips a lot faster than they should have. Once these players have been rid of, it is time then for the game to move on to the middle stage.

The Middle Stage

Now that you are up against the better players, this time you should be a bit looser and a bit aggressive with your approach. You can start playing your hands this time. This is time to defend your chips and raise your stack so that you can survive later on into the late or final stage of the game.

One thing you should be keeping in mind when playing at the middle stage is to consider the strength of your hands. Do not hesitate to lose a hand if it is not good enough. The board will give you cards to reinforce your position while the game progresses, so if the hand you have is not good, let it go. If you have a strong hand, however, you can take on some raises that your opponents will certainly do as they try to fight for survival as well.

The Late Stage

The final part of the game, this is where you try to shoot for number one in order to survive and make money. Being tight is definitely the way to go for this stage. If you have a strong hand and have a long stack in front of you, then keep out trouble and avoid sacrificing your chips as much as possible.

Stealing blinds is also an option. If you feel like you are short on chips and would not be able to double the amount of money you have bought in, then try to steal blinds so that you are able to build your stack. The key is to earn money without having to sacrifice your stack, which is counterproductive.
